Australian Labradoodle

Welcome to Northwest Australian Labradoodles, breeders of the True Authentic Australian Labradoodles. As breeders of extraordinarily friendly family companions we want to extend to others the joy and companionship these dogs bring into our lives

The Labradoodles are so popular because:

  • Extraordinarily friendly family companions
  • Light to non-shedding
  • Social with people and other dogs
  • Playful and witty in personality
  • Allergy friendly
  • Eager to learn and please
  • Excellent water dogs and retrievers
You can apply for one of our puppies online simply and easily. Take a look at the scrapbook - photographs which show these delightful companions at work and play.

We are located in the beautiful Northwest, with amazing views of Mts. Rainier and St. Helens. Our property is located half way between Seattle, WA and Portland, OR. Our dogs enjoy playing in our large yard and tree farm.

Katie and Dennis Gift

As a small family breeder our dogs and puppies enjoy socialization by us, our two kids and their friends. As part of our family, our doodles not only enjoy our property they also join us at all kinds of extracurricular activities, which also allows us to socialize our dogs in the public too. Many of our breeding females live with us, but we also have many others living in guardian homes.

Originally while searching for a new dog for our family I had no idea that there was such a thing as an allergy-friendly breed or even one that is low to non-shedding. The non-shedding was a bonus that we didn’t expect. As an allergy sufferer I was so excited to find the Australian Labradoodle.

As a kid growing up on a smaller animal farm I enjoyed all of our animals. We had dogs, cats, chickens, pigs, sheep and cows. My brothers, sisters and I showed our pigs and cows in 4-H, which was a wonderful experience for me. Dennis also raised animals a youth, particularly dogs and birds. As parents we want our children to have the same wonderful experiences that we had raising animals. We also want to share the joy and companionship that we receive from our dogs with others.

Breed History

Origin

In the early 80’s most guide dogs were Labrador Retrievers. This was a problem for allergy sufferers who needed the assistance from a guide dog. As breeding manager for the Royal Guide Dog Association of Australia, Wally Conron was determined to create a guide dog suitable for his client. She needed a sight assist guide dog that was also allergy free for her husband who suffered from allergies to dog hair. When Wally bred his Labrador to a Poodle to create the first litter of Labradoodles he only received 3 puppies. Only one puppy out of this litter proved to be allergy-free. Though challenging Wally prevailed and learned by 1989 that his creation of the Labradoodle would become a sensation.

Many breeders in Australia realized that to get a consistent confirmation, coat type and temperament they needed to introduce other breeds into the Labradoodle. Per ALAA regulations and guidance the Australian Labradoodle is considered to be a cross between the Poodle, Cocker Spaniel and Labrador Retriever, and the Labradoodle is a cross between a Labrador Retriever and Poodle.

Types of Labradoodles

F1 – This is a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle. This dog is NOT Hypo-allergenic or shed-free. It may not be suitable for anyone with asthma or allergies to dogs.

F1B – This is an F1 bred back to a Labrador Retriever or a Poodle, typically a Poodle. The F1B is slightly Multi-generational – Also known as multi-gen, this is the result of the pairing one multi-gen to multi-gen or an F1B to another F1B. Northwest Australian Labradoodles only breeds the Multi-gen to Multi-gen crosses that parentage originated from Australia. This is the best choice for anyone with allergies or asthma due to their low to non-shedding and hypo-allergenic qualities.

Breed Standard

The Australian Labradoodle is an extraordinarily sociable friendly family companion. They have a wonderfully playful, witty and easy to train. There are three sizes of Australian Labradoodles: Standard, Medium and Mini.
